Teams always pick up great players in later rounds. It's not as if all the Rays players are first picks. Actually, few are. Still, they will have to make their choices count, but how is that all that different from other teams? First picks don't always work out. Ask the Pirates.tHeMARksMiThhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16445834941960575715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8308814967611371361.post-14611300973320964432009-03-12T15:03:00.000-05:002009-03-12T15:03:00.000-05:00Those are good points. It will be interesting to see how the organization does at developing guys picked up later in the draft. I still like what they've done there though and I love Joe Maddon managing that club.Jeff Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14530649980493898838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8308814967611371361.post-42046945691426738402009-03-12T13:20:00.000-05:002009-03-12T13:20:00.000-05:00To be fair, the Rays spend about three times as mu...To be fair, the Rays spend about three times as much as the Marlins. But that's the point of having a great farm system, especially when you don't have money -- cheap players. They have also done a great job of holding onto their players and not signing free-agents with compensation issues (Burrell did not get arbitration and the Rays keep their pick). As long as they keep paying scouts, they could theoretically continue their brilliance.tHeMARksMiThhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16445834941960575715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8308814967611371361.post-63783797800074362312009-03-12T11:49:00.000-05:002009-03-12T11:49:00.000-05:00I love the Rays's story. I hope they don't go the route the Marlins took after they won their rings.Jeff Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14530649980493898838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8308814967611371361.post-51827205491039621642009-03-12T08:09:00.000-05:002009-03-12T08:09:00.000-05:00The biggest thing I worry about with them is the s...The biggest thing I worry about with them is the starting rotation health. Last year, only Kazmir went on the DL, missing the first month. Can that happen again?

This team is better than last year, but we'll see if their record reflects that.tHeMARksMiThhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16445834941960575715noreply@blogger.com
